This recipe comes from Blog Chef. It reminds me very much of PF Changs letuuce wraps and we absolutely loved it. We ate it with a yummy stir fry and rice. All of these ingredients was found at our regular grocery store.
16 leaves of "butter" lettuce (we used romaine & worked great)
1 lb ground beef
1 T. oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 T. soy sauce
1/4 c. Hoisen sauce
1 T. rice wine vinegar
Asian chili pepper sauce to taste
1 8 oz. can water chestnuts, drain & chopped
1 bunch green onions
2 T. dark sesame oil
* Heat oil in skillet, add beef and cook, breaking into small pieces. Drain and remove from pan. In same pan, add onions and cook until tender. Add meat, garlic, soy sauce, Hoisen sauce, vinegar and pepper sauce. Remember you can always add more pepper sauce if you want it more spicy. Stir to mix, add water chestnuts, green onions and sesame oil. Mix together, pile into leaves, wrap up and serve.
